“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”
- Henry David Thoreau
From This Point On is a collection of work about the way our past experiences, adventures and travels build character and allows us become the person we wish to become. Using slogans from brochures and billboards with recreational phrases, I am exploring the ephemera that attempt to help you feel at home even if you are very far away. These comforts allow us to be open to new experiences when we are gone, knowing that we have a safe place to return to. Mountains conquered, new cities explored; a break from normalcy, although short-lived, may impact the way we look at our daily lives. The souvenirs we collect serve as a reminder of what we are capable of.
This work is an attempt to remind us of places we have been, and encourage us to go where we have always wanted to go. It is a token of adventures that have yet to happen, and a reminder of where we want to be.
